Mothers-to-be may be interested to hear the results of a new survey by a family website that showed 44 per cent of UK mothers believe breastfeeding is always best for a baby.
The survey of over 1,000 mothers also revealed that 19 per cent of UK mums believe it is important to put their own wellbeing first, 16 per cent believe they should put their baby's needs first, while 13 per cent believe researching the arguments for and against is essential.
Commenting on the findings GP registrar Dr Clare Heggie said: " Unfortunately it does not suit everyone.
" Ultimately, the decision of whether to breast or bottle feed has to be made by the mum and there is no point trying to breast feed when a mum just doesn t want to do it. It is vital that mums make their own decision about feeding using all the information provided."
The Department of Health says mothers should exclusively breastfeed for the first six months of a child's life.
