Pregnant women have been told they do not need to worry about any risks surrounding their daily cup of coffee.
Until now, women have often been warned that they could be at risk of miscarriage if they drink coffee while they are expecting a baby.
However, a study by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has found that consumption of less than 200 mg of caffeine per day does not cause harm.
This would mean a normal mug of coffee can still be a part of the pregnancy diet, although the organisation has warned that the effects of high levels of caffeine have not yet been determined.
William H Barth Jr MD, chair of the Committee on Obstetric Practice, said: "For years, women have been getting mixed messages about whether or not they should have any caffeine during pregnancy.
"After a review of the scientific evidence to date, daily moderate caffeine consumption doesn't appear to have any major impact in causing miscarriage or preterm birth."
Meanwhile, the Department of Health recommends that pregnant women should not consume alcohol.
